Why did Jesus die for us? This question has been on the minds of many theologians over the centuries. I will never be able to answer that question fully, especially in a devotional. But I can say that there are two basic philosophies about Jesus that would make Him want to die for His creation. Depending on which of those philosophies you subscribe to will determine your whole theology and spiritual formation.
Philosophy number one says that God is wrathful toward us because of sin, and Jesus is doing all He can to appease God so that He doesn’t destroy the lot of us. The second philosophy states that God loves us so much that He sent the only Person, Jesus, who knows the fullness and farthest extent of God’s love so that humans can see the beautiful character of God. Even to the point of dying for a people who didn’t deserve it so that the relationship between God and those people can be restored for eternity.
One produces fear instead of love. One makes salvation by works instead of by grace. One seeks to appease God rather than be in a relationship with God. One is based on pride, and the other produces humility. Friend Jesus is coming back soon, and we will be able to see God and hear His voice as He expresses His love for us face to face. I choose to see God through the lens of love.
Today if you decide to get closer to Jesus and experience His love, I want to invite you to comment below “I want to know God’s love better.” Continue studying God’s Word, friends! Through the scriptures, you will see the most beautiful expression of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
