What is the biggest demonstration of love that you can think of? Some would say that a parent that lays down their life for a child would be impressive. A spouse that would search the rest of their life for their lost love would maybe win the prize of the most excellent demonstration of love. But when I read the Bible, I see that the greatest demonstration of love is of a father that would lay down his life for his creation. And get this, his creation doesn’t even care and goes so far as to help plunge the knife into God’s heart. For thousands of years, an enemy sowed the seed of doubt into the hearts and minds of the human race. He sold us a harmful idea of the character of God, and we ate it up. He told us that God was harsh and demanding. God is waiting in the sky to zap you if you don’t do what he wants, the enemy said. We bought it all the while, and we build theology and systems of belief around ideas of God that weren’t true. As the millennia passed, we drew further and further away from God. This drawing away from God needed to be repaired in some way. What was to happen would be the greatest demonstration of love; God was to sacrifice his own life to save and restore a relationship with humans. The sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was the biggest demonstration of love that the world could ever know. This love transcends any love that we could know on earth. The love of God is eternal; it is infinite. The most beautiful thing about the love of God is that you can experience it; yes, it’s for you. I love introducing people to God through the Bible. Suppose you want to know the love of God. Contact the Anderson Seventh-day Adventist church to start that journey.
